Time and Email Marketing

Recently I have started deleting or marking as already read many of the emails that I receive from internet marketing guru’s. There are a few who are borderline and I choose to read them on a per email basis. Others, such as Dr. Ralph Wilson or Perry Marshall, I always choose to read. Why do I always choose to read the latter two? It is because I know that they value my time and that they will not fill my email box with countless promotions for affiliate products.

Time is a precious commodity and nothing ticks me off more than being disrespected in this area. Why would someone think that their time is more valuable than mine. Flooding a persons email with countless promotions is an indication that you do not value the other persons time.

Is it ok to send a promotion or two every now and then? Absolutely! I think the ratio should be something like 1 in 10. If you send me emails that are valuable and inform me of free information that is available, or you are sending me some of that valuable free information – then think of me when you have something to sell or promote. Do not spam me or you are at risk of being promoted to the spam box of my email.

Seth Godin said it very well in a recent article, “If you want someone to think you’re selfish, just ask for a minute of their time and then waste it or use it for your own ends”. Correct me if I’m wrong, but when someone sends me an email they are asking for some of my time.
