I’m looking forward to seeing the new Karate Kid movie with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. I saw the trailer and it looks very good. But, I still remember the original movie with Ralph Macchio as Daniel, and Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi.
Who can forget the scene, when Mr. Miyagi is showing Daniel classic defensive Karate moves, through the process of waxing a car. Daniel did not understand the wisdom, therefore, he could not see the value of waxing a car, when he wanted, and needed, to learn Karate quickly.
This is frequently the process that God uses in our lives, to develop character that is very much related to discipline. “But Lord, why should I do this? I can’t see how this relates to my career or aspirations. How is this helping my life? What is the point in doing this, over and over again?
Many of us have learned from practical experience that if we are going to reach any significant goal we will have to leave our comfort zone. Are you ready to launch out in the deep? Wax on – Wax off.
Hey Jim: I really enjoyed the recent film Karate Kid (KK). I didn’t see the previous films of that name — I guess I was too busy to sit still long enough to enjoy them. But, now at my age I’m making some things more of a priority. Anyway, it was nice to see that character development was a major part of the message delivered in the recent KK film. Just like Christ-like character development was to be a fresh and progressive way of life in the early days of Christianity, it’s still an integral part of our lives today. The title “Wax on Wax off” was really good! I love that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever and He keeps life exciting.
