Christianity or Christ

Christianity or Christ

Steve Pavlina wrote a post recently and admitted up front that since Christianity is the largest religion he would slant the article towards its ubiquitous failings. You can reference the article at this link:

There are numerous books written by people who would identify themselves as Christians who are also against religion. I have stated previously on this blog that I am in this category. It might surprise Steve and others who take a strong reactionary stance against Christianity that Jesus, the Christ, was also against the obvious shortcomings of religion and some of his harshest words were directed against religious people.

Having said all that, let me suggest that you check out the article by Steve because he raises some good points. Obviously I do not agree with everything he has written in this article but that is ok. Let me suggest to all who have a problem with Christianity or just the idea of organized religion to check out Jesus. Read the gospel of John in the Bible and then read the other three. You may want to use a paraphrase like The Message. I think you will see that to be a follower of Jesus Christ does not mean to embrace a religion.

Till next time, Jim

    Jim,

I agree with you and fall in the same category, but the more church I attend the more I think its a losing battle. Catholicism did an excellent job of alienating people from Jesus in the past, but now mainstream Protestantism is doing irreversible damage. Its really horrifying to me how glazed over most Christians eyes will become when I try to talk with them about this. They either don’t care or are angered that I would dare question their precious reality that they are comfortable with. Heck, if I wasn’t raised by and around Christians throughout my formative years, I would most likely loathe them. Now they’re mostly like that derelict relative that you are embarrassed and ashamed of but you still love them. Anyway, I’m probably more extreme than you, but I just wanted to share my two cents.
