Search Engine Optimization or SEO is a term widely used on the internet by e-commerce sites (Sites doing business on the internet). The top three search engines are Goggle, Yahoo, and MSN (Live) search respectively. The dominant one is Google by a wide margin therefore we will focus in on them but the simple strategies revealed here apply to them all.Google is a search engine and their main objective is to give their customers what they are seeking – period. Forget about all the hype and schemes while you focus in on the two things that will make the biggest difference. The first thing is good content. Whatever the consumer is searching for, this is what Google desires for them to find.

Search engine optimization is utilizing tools and methods to make your site rank in the top results search engines. Getting yourself onto the first page, and even better on the top half of the page, will ensure that your site will generate public awareness and generate more traffic. Traffic is needed so that you can gain potential income and business.

Most people that use search engines use only the top ten search results on the first page. Making it to the first page is a barometer of a sites success in search engine optimization. If you make it into the top three then you are very successful. The exception to this rule could be an unusual name or product which will rank high because of the scarcity of results.

I call good content the Wikipedia phenomena. Try this out for yourself. Do a search on Google on any topic you choose, and usually the Wikipedia entry will be in the top three results (usually number one). The exception to this rule is when Wikipedia does not have a substantial article on the topic.

Search engine optimization will require a lot of writing to be fully realized. Either you will do it yourself or pay someone else to do it for you but the work must be done. From time to time there will be different aspects of your site that will need to be changed and fine tuned to get better search engine optimization.

Search the internet for more useful help. Tips, guidelines and methods for search engine optimization are plentiful. Read articles that can help you optimize your site in search engine results. The more knowledge and information you gather the better. This will all help you in getting those high rankings. This may require a little time and effort in your part but the benefits will be great.

The second thing that will make a major difference in your search engine rankings are the number of inbound links coming into your site. The buzz words now as I write this are “Social Bookmarking” and “Article Directories”. Both of these vehicles are major ways to gather links very quickly. Outbound links from your site are important too but not nearly as much as inbound links.

Focus in on writing good content and you will get noticed by other websites that have high page rankings (A measure that Google gives to a site to indicate its importance). Take the time to read other sites and make comments when you really have something to say. You can also visit forums related to your theme and participate in discussions.

If you can part with some money, there are many sites on the internet that can help you in search engine optimization. There are many sites that help in tracking keyword phrases that can help your site. There are also some content writers that have lots of experience in making good keyword laden content for your sites that have good quality.

Remember that there are two main things to stay focused on as you try to gain search engine optimization. Make sure that you have plenty of content and links and this should enable you to be near the top in search results.

Paying for Information Link: http://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/

I bought a book to help with my WordPress blogs entitled, “WordPress for Dummies”. It is well worth the price for the information that I got quickly, but I want to let you in on a secret. If you are willing to spend the time in research you can usually find much of the same information. An example in point is today’s link.

Joost de Valk is known for lots of plugins on WordPress and he is an expert on SEO. Check out the link and the blog, you will not be sorry. Personally, I will continue to buy books that I need because of the time factor. I can get the information in a bound form and it is easy to access. I will also check out Joost’s blog on a regular basis – this is the best of both worlds.

Till next time, Jim
